Special Events - Chapter 4 - Consequences & Distractions

Commander Shepard leaned against the back wall of the elevator waiting to reach the second level. Her mind was running a marathon with all the recent events that swarmed into her life. Reblicah never expected to find love in the arms of a turian and now… she was his bondmate. A single scar bound the two together, marking the beginning of their eternal commitment.

The elevator dinged, signaling the arrival at the Combat Information Center. Shepard straightened the bottom of her uniform, shook up her still damp hair, and attempted to wipe away her devious grin. Unfortunately, she failed. A sudden flashback of the rendezvous she and Garrus shared in the shower brought the smile right back. Her glow was immediately apparent to everyone around the galaxy map. They could easily see there was something different about their Commander.

Yeoman Kelly Chambers turned around to immediately greet Shepard. "Good morning, Commander. You have unread messages at your…" she stopped mid sentence as her eyes caught a glimpse of the fresh mark on Reblicah's neck, "terminal."

"Thank you, Kelly. I'll check them a little later."

Kelly's face became consumed by her joyous smirk. She leaned in, whispering, "Congratulations, Shepard."

Reby brought her index finger to her mouth and quietly voiced, "Don't tell the crew."

"I won't. I'm proud of you. There should be more people like you, open-minded and accepting. You are great example to us all."

"Garrus is important to me. That's all that matters. No one in the whole galaxy could tear me away from being with him."

The Yeoman nodded in agreement. When she noticed a crew member walking by, she straightened up and composed herself back to the matters at hand, "Also Commander, Mordin wanted to speak with you in his laboratory."

"So I've been told. I'm on my way there now. Have a good day, Kelly."

"You too, Shepard."

Reblicah headed into the laboratory and noticed the salarian doctor staring through the lens of his microscope. She casually walked up knowing Mordin would take notice of her presence at any moment. No matter how busy he was, he was constantly observing everything around him at all times. It was impossible for anyone to sneak up on him.

Without taking his gaze away from the microscope, he started, "Shepard. Glad you came, wanted to advise you about turian bonding and discuss marking ritual." When he finally pulled himself away from the lens, he promptly noticed the fresh scar. "Ah! See you have already experienced it."

Shepard's face flushed a bright pink, instantly giving her away, "For once, you're a little late on the advice."

Mordin came in for a closer look. His eyes scanning the area surrounding the mark, commenting his discoveries, "Intriguing, still looks fresh, possibly done last night. Already healing, no signs of irritation, must be implants from Lazerus Project. Detecting what appears to be… this is unusual… blue oil-based paint?"

"I'd rather not get into details but yes, that is paint."

"Have Garrus stop by later, need to see if any allergic reactions have occurred from ingestion of amino acids from hemoglobin. Knew the relationship between you and Garrus was more than a stress reliever, surprised it got so far so quickly."

"I don't exactly have a lot of time to play with."

"Understand completely, Commander. Also, received information about a prototype weapon from a former Special Tasks Group operative. Apparently it has been leaked onto the black market. Has a special bullet that can penetrate through barriers and shields and embed itself into armor, similar to a fragmentation grenade, upon detonation it sends shrapnel directly into the victim."

"I sure as hell don't want to be on the other side of that barrel. See what you can do to retrieve one. We could use that kind of weapon to have the advantage against our enemies."

"Indeed. Have already put actions in motion to retrieve one, will let you know if any additional news arises."

"Thank you, Mordin."

Reby turned to walk away but was immediately stopped by the salarian doctor when he called her name, "Shepard?"

"Yes?"

"One last thing." He coughed into his hand, "Congratulations."

Shepard acknowledged his compliment with a slight nod then continued out of the laboratory.

"Garrus, you Bosh'tet!" Tali Zorah called out while storming into the main battery. Garrus turned around to face the spunky quarian and could instantly tell she wasn't upset. She threw her arms out and asked, "Why didn't you tell me that you and Shepard became bondmates?"

"Well, we just took that step last night," he rubbed the side of his neck nervously. "I didn't even expect her to agree to it."

"Oh… Keelah! I am so happy for you!" Tali rushed up to him and gave him a tight hug. The sudden affection caught him off guard and caused him to lean against his console.

"I am too."

Garrus didn't expect the news about their commitment to travel around the Normandy so quickly. Even more surprising was the reactions he was receiving. Just about everyone aboard seemed thrilled to see the couple taking the next step. He knew Tali would be enthusiastic but he was not prepared for the intensity of her arms squeezing his torso.

Their friendly hug was short-lived, being interrupted by the sound of someone clearing their throat. They both turned to see Reblicah standing in the doorway with a raised eyebrow, "I hope I'm not interrupting anything."

"Oh Shepard, congratulations!" Tali charged the Commander and threw her arms around her neck. Reby seemed more prepared for the affectionate assault as she didn't even budge from her spot. "I'll let you two be," she mentioned before heading out of the room with a skip in her step.

"Shepard, need me for something?"

Reby casually walked up to the tall turian, asking, "So, have you been getting as much attention as I?"

"Yes, it feels so weird," he pressed the button on his console to close the door.

"I will have to agree. I expected the gossip but not their complete enthusiasm."

"I hope this attention doesn't last, I enjoy having you alone, all to myself."

"Well," she closed in on him, taking his hands into hers, "we're alone right now."

"Shepard, there's something I want you to know… something has changed. I cannot stand being away from you. I mean… I couldn't before but now the feeling is stronger. I'm constantly yearning for your touch, I feel incomplete every time I don't have you near me. As soon as you leave, my heart tears into several pieces until we are reunited."

"Then I guess I should make an effort to always stay near you."

"I would appreciate it… immensely… but you won't have to." Using their locked hands, Garrus pulled Reblicah close enough to feel her warmth against his armor. He lowered his forehead to greet hers, feeling a bolt of energy jump through him the moment he met her skin. His nose gently brushed against hers as he whispered, "Because I won't let you stray that far away from me to begin with."

"Is that so, Vakarian?" The words softly left her mouth as is was slowly making their way to join his. She lightly pressed her lips against the lower ridges of his opening, waiting for his response. Garrus used his two fingers to slightly lift her chin up… bringing her lustful lips up to his level before returning her request. They locked their mouths and allowed their passionate desires to consume them. Their hands grasping at whatever they could hold. Their bodies begging for the other's touch… imploring their adventurous nature… until…

Joker came on the intercom disturbing their moment, "Sorry to interrupt, Commander."

"You know Joker, you have impeccable timing. You always find the perfect moment to intercept me," she commented, glaring at the box his voice was echoing from.

"Yeah… I know," he boasted. "I just wanted to let you know that Miranda has requested an audience with you. You can probably guess what she has to say."

"Wonderful, how much time do I have?"

"I don't know, Commander, I wouldn't push it though. I could have sworn I saw a datapad being biotically thrown," then the intercom cut out.

Garrus looked at Shepard with his sad blue eyes, disappointedly suggesting, "You should go."

"What happened to me straying too far?"

"I think I can handle you being down the hall in her office."

"Do I really have to?" Reby pouted at him, with pursed lips and puppy dog eyes.

"I don't want you to leave either but obviously I cannot keep you all to myself."

"Yes you can."

"Shepard…"

"Fine," sighing heavily as she removed herself from his grip, "So I'll see you later?"

"Definitely."

"I'll make sure to mute all communications this time."

She shot once last smile before she turned away, slapping her hand against the button to open the door.

Reblicah wandered back into her chamber feeling the anguish crawling under her skin. Everyone knew to leave her alone after "chatting" with the Cerberus loyalist. Even after everything Shepard and Miranda experienced together, they still had issues with each other. Reby was still fuming from her past encounter with Cerberus and wanted Miranda to realize the atrocities they performed, bringing up the death of Admiral Kahoku multiple times. In return, Miranda would constantly remind Shepard how much funding went into bringing her back. The Commander was thankful for their ability to reconstruct her… but was the debt of her resurrection worth it? Every single day she questioned her chances at taking on the Reaper fleet and the numbers were disheartening. As impossible this war seemed to be, she had one reason to fight… Garrus.

She plopped down in the chair in front of her desk and the terminal summoned to life. Before pulling up the unread messages, Shepard took a brief moment to look at the photograph propped near her elbow. The frame used to contain the portrait of Staff Lieutenant Alenko but after their confrontation on Horizon she spitefully placed the image facedown. When the relationship with Gunnery Chief Vakarian started picking up, Shepard deleted the portrait, marking the final step of closure.

Shortly after their return from the Collector base, Reby uploaded a new photograph. The replacement showed Garrus bending Shepard back while they were doing dancing lessons. Due to her many failed attempts on the dance floor, she asked her turian companion to help her learn. So they spent one evening frolicking around the cargo hold, mostly joking about whom was a worse dancer. Kasumi Goto snuck in and snapped the image without their knowledge. A few days later, Reby received a message with the photo and a little note saying, "Aren't you glad I told you to go for it?"

The Commander redirected her attention to the terminal and brought up the first unread message:

RE: Special Event

Commander Shepard,
We are looking forward to finally meeting you this weekend. We cannot thank you enough for all that you have done for the gallery. As our main benefactor, I feel it would only be fair to showcase your artwork in the center of the exhibition. Please let me know.

Reblicah began typing a response but was interrupted by an incoming message. Typically she would wait until she was finished before moving onto the next but the senders name flashed for a brief moment… it was Liara. So she immediately opened it:

From: Liara T'Soni
Subject: (No Subject)

I just received word that you have become bondmates with Garrus. Congratulations, Shepard! I am so happy to see my two shipmates together. You are doing a great job at bringing him peace in this lonely world. You two have seen many things together and will be a great support for the struggles for come.
Just be prepared, the extranet was already going crazy about the rumors of the infamous Commander Shepard being in a relationship with a turian. Imagine how wild it will become once they see your scar. There are a lot of mixed feelings already. I know how you do not care about what others say but you might want to consider covering it.
--Liara

"I knew she would make a great Shadow Broker," she mentioned bringing up the reply screen.

From: Commander Reblicah Shepard
RE: (No Subject)

You amaze me, Liara. Are you linked to one of the cameras aboard the Normandy?
Thank you for the congratulations. I have been receiving nothing but praise from the crew, even Miranda commented on it before chewing my ear off about Cerberus and her perfectly designed body. I am aware that upon leaving the Normandy there will be opposition but I am prepared for whatever they throw at me. Although, I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to confront me.
--Shepard

Reblicah took another glance at the photograph and recalled her most recent conversation with Liara in her quarters. She asked Shepard, "What are you fighting for, a chance to give Garrus some peace?" Garrus has been hurt… betrayed… and she was the one good thing he had left in this screwed up galaxy. In return, he was everything she ever desired - someone she trusted whole heartedly, someone she knew would stand by her side until the very end, someone who would look past her title and love her no matter what. Now that Reby found someone to live for, she was determined to do whatever it takes to protect what they have. No one would stand in her way.
This is chapter 4 of my fan fiction. It's about Garrus Vakarian and my female Commander Shepard sharing their moments. Reblicah (think replica but with a b) Shepard is a Spacer/War Hero/Soldier.

In this part, the crew on the Normandy begins discovering their Commander and Gunnery Chief Vakarian took the next step in their relationship.

I will warn you now, if you do not like xenophelia, don't read this. This is meant for adult audiences.

I always have a special playlist going but the song that really helped bring this together is Mt Eden - "When Will The Storm Begin."
